The Carbon Sequestration Potential of Restoration Symposium
In February 2016, Brooke Osborne (PhD Candidate, Brown University) and I partnered with Osa Conservation to organize a symposium entitled "The Carbon Sequestration Potential of Restoration." Researchers, government officials, and leaders of non-profit organizations from all over the world gathered at the Piro Biological Station on the Osa Peninsula, Costa Rica to discuss new research and applications that can guide the implementation of land management techniques with the goal of restoring vital ecosystem services.

Interdisciplinary Collaborative Network
Throughout my PhD, I was an Executive Board Member of the Interdisciplinary Collaborative Network. The Interdisciplinary Collaborative Network is a graduate student based organization that fosters educational and professional opportunities that traverses disciplines and promotes graduate student success. At the University of Montana, we offered seminar series every semester, events to connect graduate students with undergraduates interested in engaging in research and creative scholarship, and offered annual grants to support graduate students conducting interdisciplinary research.

Graduate & Professional Student Association
For most of my tenure at the University of Montana, I was a Senator for the Graduate and Professional Student Association. I represented graduate students from the WA Franke College of Forestry and Conservation, and lobbied for fair and just returns of the monetary fees all graduate students pay at registration every semester.

Public Service

spectrUM Discovery Area
While a PhD candidate at the University of Montana, I volunteered at the spectrUM Discovery Center, a hands-on science center that inspires young Montanans to pursue higher education and careers in the STEM fields. I created interactive activities to teach children and teenagers about the biological, physical, and chemical properties of soil.

Montana Science Fair
Every year while at the University of Montana, I volunteered to judge the Montana State Science Fair. It is always a thrill to meet and engage with the next generation of scientists!
